Whole House Approach at Argyle Road, Saltcoats
The Problem
It is not feasible to look at only one element of energy saving in isolation within a building, a whole and complete approach garners best results and maximum energy efficiencies and savings.
This project undertaken in autumn 2021 is an example of a whole house approach, which is a key element to the new ECO4 funding.
Our Solution
We carried out the following measures on the property:
- room in roof insulation
- loft insulation
- underfloor insulation
- first time gas
- heating controls
First we insulated the Room in Roof upstairs with SWIP Insulated Plasterboard. This was completed by taping, plastering and finishing, by putting back on the skirting boards. We topped up the Knuaf loft wool in the loft between the joists to 300mm, and also insulated with Knauf wool in the underfloor between the joists, using netting to hold it in place.
Once the fabric measures were complete, we organised for the heating to be upgraded. The customer changed from electric room heaters to first time central heating. Our sub-contracted gas installer installed a brand-new Ideal Esprit ECO 30k combi boiler, as well as an ESI RF Prog Roomstat heating control unit.
As part of the project we also installed an extractor far in both the kitchen and bathroom. This is standard in any wet room to eliminate condensation and mould growth.
Our customer was extremely happy with the service provided and has reported a vast increase in the energy efficiency of the property.
